Leading Light Wind
Leading Light Wind is an American-led offshore wind project that will bring locally sourced renewable energy to the East Coast. Developed by Invenergy and New York-based energyRe, we believe in empowering the communities where we live and work.
Developed by Invenergy and New York-based energyRe, Leading Light Wind will build on our track record of innovation in sustainable American infrastructure and impactful community engagement to advance public health, create good-paying jobs, and support our local supply chain.
In early 2022, Leading Light Wind acquired lease OSC-A 0542 from The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), with a winning bid of $645 million. The 84,000-acre lease is located 40 miles east of Atlantic City and 80 miles south of Long Island.
Leading Light Wind is intended to be operational by 2030 in order to contribute to the 30-gigawatt-by-2030 national offshore wind energy goal set forth by the Biden Administration.
According to American Clean Power, research shows that the goal of 30-gigawatts-by-2030 will create 83,000 new American jobs.
Leading Light Wind is contributing to this goal by actively hiring locally to secure a best-in-class team for our project development and future operations organization.
Leading Light Wind takes pride in being a responsible developer and steward of the environment. To avoid and minimize impacts to wildlife and other natural resources, we work with state and federal agencies and other interested stakeholders to site, build, and operate our projects responsibly.
The cornerstone of that effort for Leading Light Wind includes robust pre-construction wildlife and habitat surveys, communicating early and often with wildlife agencies, and operational monitoring to ensure risk to all wildlife surrounding our project is minimized.
