Wind Power Ready Program
In August, Leading Light Wind celebrated the graduation of the first class of wind turbine technicians to complete Rowan College of South Jersey’s Wind Power Ready program. Leading Light Wind provided substantial backing for the program’s implementation, contributing $250,000. The 21-week program is designed to equip participants with the essential skills for good-paying careers as wind turbine technicians and helps ensure New Jersey students have access to high-quality training and job opportunities in the clean energy sector. The program provides 11 different technical credentialing certificates while also providing key wraparound and employment readiness services necessary to support program participants along the way.
The U.S. is projected to see a 45% growth in demand for wind turbine technicians over the next ten years – making it the fastest growing job in the country. Through collaborative workforce partnerships like the Wind Power Ready program, Leading Light Wind’s goal is to create accessible pathways to the industry to ensure that New Jerseyans everywhere – including those in overburdened communities – can realize the economic benefits of offshore wind.
